Funny Car

A Funny Car is a highly modified drag racing vehicle that pairs the 11,000-horsepower nitromethane engine of a Top Fuel dragster with a lightweight carbon-fiber body designed to loosely resemble a production street car.

Chassis & Body Design

 * Features a hinged, one-piece body shell (mimicking models like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, or Dodge Charger) that tilts upward to allow driver and crew access.

 * Utilizes a much shorter wheelbase than a Top Fuel dragster—typically around 125 inches compared to a dragster’s 300 inches—making them notoriously volatile, twitchy, and difficult to steer at high speeds.

The engine is mounted directly in front of the driver rather than behind them, meaning the driver sits straddling the driveshaft while looking over the supercharger.

Power & Performance

 * Powered by the exact same 500-cubic-inch supercharged Hemi-based V8 engine as a Top Fuel dragster, burning up to 15 gallons of a 90% nitromethane mixture per run.

 * Accelerates to over 330 mph (531 km/h) and covers a 1,000-foot track in approximately 3.8 seconds.
