JET DRAGSTER

Unlike Top Fuel and Funny Cars, a Jet Dragster doesn't spin its wheels to move—it is literally a fighter jet engine strapped to a lightweight chassis, pushed forward entirely by thrust

 * No Drivetrain: In a traditional dragster, the engine turns a clutch, which turns the wheels to grip the track. In a Jet Dragster, the engine isn't connected to the wheels at all. The tires are strictly for rolling and steering. The car moves entirely due to the massive volume of hot gases blasting out the back pushing it forward.

 * The Afterburner Launch: The signature 20-foot flames and ear-splitting booms before a run come from the afterburner. To launch, the driver dumps raw fuel directly into the scorching exhaust stream. This secondary explosion creates a massive, instant surge of thrust that rockets the car down the quarter-mile.

 * Burner Pops: The loud, rhythmic "booming" you hear while a jet dragster stages is the driver rapidly cycling the afterburner on and off. This clears excess fuel and builds the precise compressor speed needed for the final launch.

 * Stopping the Missile: At over 300 mph, traditional friction brakes would instantly melt. Jet dragsters rely entirely on heavy-duty, dual ring parachutes deployed at the finish line to create massive aerodynamic drag, with the mechanical wheel brakes only used for low-speed maneuvering back to the pits.
